ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY REPRESENTATIVE

Dario Ambriz is the current Associated Student Body President for Long Beach City College.


LOCAL BUSINESS COMMUNITY

Barbara Long Vice President of Government Relations and Special Projects for the Aquarium of the Pacific, is responsible for working with government officials and foundations regarding grants and other sources of major project funding as well as overseeing major projects such as Shark Lagoon, the Aquarium’s first master plan, the upcoming Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) environmental education classroom and animal hospital as well as watershed, animal care, and ports exhibits. She oversaw the Aquarium’s efforts to register its greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) with the California Climate Action Registry —the first museum in the nation to successfully do so—and is the executive sponsor for the Aquarium’s Green Team. She also managed the “Whales: Voices in the Sea” exhibit which received the American Association of Museums MUSE award. As a member of the senior management, Long also develops long-term goals and plans for the Aquarium, board administration, and serves as the corporate secretary.

Long served on to the City of Long Beach’s Green Ribbon Committee assisting the city in developing green building policy for private developer. She also was on the city staff’s Energy Efficiency Task Force. She serves on the California Association of Museum’s (CAM) Green Museum Initiative committee and has served on the American Association of Museum’s jury selecting the MUSE website award winners. She is on the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Circle of Wishes Council, the International Trade Education Programs board, and a member of Rotary.

Long came to the Aquarium in 2000 as a consultant and advisor to the board. With more than 20 years experience, she previously served as Deputy Executive Officer of Finance at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority overseeing budgeting, strategic planning and capital plan management. She also led the team that received a complimentary report from State of California auditors accessing the MTA’s debt policy and practices. Prior to that, she was a member of the Broadway Stores senior strategy team and served in a number of corporate capacities.


BONA FIDE TAXPAYERS ORGANIZATION

Dina Berg is currently an Administrative Intern for Councilwoman Gerri Schipske, 5 th District.  She assists in the coordination, planning, and development of programs and activities to address resident's economic, social service, and community improvement needs.  Dina participates in the establishment of and revitalization of neighborhood associations and neighborhood watch blocks.  She also meets with neighborhood residents, leaders, and community groups to identify needs and available resources.  

Dina is currently the Board Secretary and Block Captain for the Lakewood Village Neighborhood Association.


SUPPORT ORGANIZATION FOR THE COLLEGE

Barry McDaniel is Principal and Chief Executive Officer of Overland Pacific & Cutler, Inc.,a real estate and supply change management practice to government and business. He has nearly four decades of experience with real estate consulting, project planning, engineering and construction management. Mr. McDaniel has directed large scale real estate programs including program development, budgeting, planning, implementation, property management, staff and client training, and quality control. These real estate activities were undertaken while employed with a public agency and while consulting to over 200 public agencies, including airport authorities, housing authorities, school districts, transportation agencies, redevelopment and economic development agencies, and other special districts. In addition, he provides expert witness support for situations that arise as a result of relocation exposure.

Mr. McDaniel has served on the boards of the Long Beach Port Ambassadors, Long Beach Marathon, Long Beach City College Foundation, and numerous professional organizations.


COMMUNITY AT LARGE

J. C. Squires was born in Long Beach and is a life-long resident and product of the Long Beach education and parks system.  Following graduation from Jordan High School, J.C. attended California State University at Long Beach and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.  While at Cal State, J.C. was a member of the school’s baseball and fencing teams.

Following graduation, J.C. joined the Los Angeles County Auditor-Controller’s Office.  In six years with the County, J.C. performed financial and operational audits for a variety of County business units, including the Treasurer-Tax Collector, Public Works, County Engineer, Children’s Services, and a Water Utility.  Most notably, J.C. was responsible for designing the investment accounting processes and controls that still safeguard the County’s multi-billion dollar investment portfolio.     

J.C. joined the City Auditor’s Office in 1987 and was promoted to Assistant City Auditor in 1996.  His duties included planning, management and coordination of all audit services for the City, its boards and commissions.  These services include financial, operational and compliance audits, strategic planning, and economic analysis.  J.C. was also responsible for the recruitment and development of the Auditor’s professional staff and is proud to report that the efforts of the professional staff annually returned dollar savings and recoveries equal to several times the Auditor’s Office budget.

In 2006, JC joined the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine as Manager of Business Operations overseeing five divisions; personnel, accounting and budget, safety, contracts and revenue development, and information and graphics.  The Department operates 152 parks, 24 community centers, 3 pools, 6 miles of beaches, and 3,200 boat slips in two marinas with 1,300 employees and a $50 million budget.

J.C. is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the State of California, and a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).  J.C. has advised other governments and been a guest speaker on such topics as developing an audit function, operating government as a business, developing and implementing operational business plans, and performance measures.


COMMUNITY AT LARGE

Gary Westling has over 25 years of extensive experience in the construction and development field.  Experience includes management of Type 1 commercial & Type 5 residential, Type 1 podium, OSHPD hospital, electrical distribution systems, core & shell, industrial, tenant improvements and renovations within the commercial and residential development, transportation, high technology construction and the motion picture production industry. Particular expertise in high density, design build, 3 rd party utility coordination, purchasing, conceptual estimating, scheduling, accounting, bidding, contracts, construction management, tenant relations and negotiation of work.


SENIOR CITIZENS ORGANIZATION

Gary Cooper, currently retired, was owner and CEO of Long Beach Nissan for 30 years. His extensive board/non-profit history includes Musical Theatre West, Long Beach Police Motor Patrol Association (33 years), Long Beach City College (Foundation Executive VP, 5 years), and Citizens Oversight Committee – Long Beach City College (5 years). Mr. Cooper was also past president several times over for: Nissan National Dealer Board, Southland Motor Car Dealer Association, and So. Cal. Nissan Dealer Association. He was also named Dealer of the Year by American Import Auto Dealer Association in 1993. Mr. Cooper attended USC Business School. His spouse is Judy.
